Continue reading as we talk about three electric trucks in 2023 that you may want to check out:

1. Tesla Cybertruck

Although the Tesla Cybertruck doesn’t have an official release date at the time of writing, reports mention that production for this electric vehicle will complete by the end of 2022. That means that the Cybertruck should be available for purchase by 2023.

It also offers a futuristic design, unlike the general aesthetics of a standard pickup truck. The Cybertruck has sharp edges throughout most of its bodyshell. Tesla says that this vehicle's exterior shell is almost impenetrable, optimizing the safety of the people in the cabin.

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO and product architect, even mentioned in a tweet from his personal Twitter account that the Cybertruck is almost waterproof, allowing it to act as a boat. This ruggedness also comes with a 3,500-pound payload, promoting fairly easy transport for relatively heavy objects.

Aside from the properties already mentioned, other notable features offered by the Tesla Cybertruck are:

  • 14,000-pound maximum towing weight
  • 17-inch touchscreen display for the in-cabin center console
  • Automatic self-leveling
  • Ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.9 seconds
  • Can go up to 500 miles from a full charge

As for the Cybertruck’s price, expect it to be around $39,990. But that may increase with each additional feature the company adds to the vehicle before the official release date arrives.

2. 2024 Chevy Silverado EV

This vehicle is the first electric truck from the Silverado line and should be available for purchase from the public by fall 2023.

One of its key features is the patented platform called Ultium. With it, the battery offers power usage without diminishing its charge significantly. Chevrolet says that users can keep the lights on in the 2024 Silverado EV for up to 21 days without the battery discharging.

The Ultium platform also promises to enhance the vehicle's other capabilities. It aims to promote optimal torque without the unwanted emissions experienced by gas-powered vehicles.

The battery in the 2024 Silverado model can last up to 400 miles on a full charge. Chevy also offers users of this electric truck flexible charging options, such as home and on-the-go charging. You can also use the myChevrolet smartphone app to find the nearest available charging station.

Other features of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV that are worthy of mentioning are:

  • 14 built-in camera views for increased on- and off-road safety
  • Up to 10,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity
  • On-board height adjustment features
  • Hands-free driving with the Super Cruise technology
  • 17-inch touchscreen center console display

The 2023 GMC Sierra Denali EV started its production at the beginning of 2022, and should be available for purchase starting in spring 2023.

Like the 2024 Silverado EV, the Sierra Denali EV will have the company’s patented Ultium platform. That way, users can expect the 2023 Denali EV to go from 0 to 60 mph in as low as 3 seconds. Plus, this platform can help provide about 300 miles of use in each full charge.

GMC also adds an illuminated front grille for enhanced night-time visibility. The vehicle also comes with a front fascia with improved aerodynamic elements to reduce air drag and optimize mileage.

This vehicle will also have multiple safety features like an automatic lane change assist and an enhanced navigation display. It also has features that help users in towing boats and campers while driving the Sierra Denali hands-free.

What Factors Should You Consider When Buying An Electric Truck?

Aside from looking at the options in the previous section, don’t forget to think about certain factors when choosing your ideal electric truck. Some of the things that should be on your mind are:

Are you looking for an electric pickup truck with a large towing capacity? Perhaps you want a truck with an acceleration performance that’s similar to a sports car.

Think about the features that you want for your new electric truck. If you can’t find the features that you want in a particular model, perhaps you can compromise by adding aftermarket accessories.

Expect to pay over $30,000 for an electric truck. You can also base your spending allowance on that amount. You can see premium models on the market with price tags that can reach up to $100,000.

Maximum Towing and Payload Capacity

If you’re going to use your new electric truck for towing, you also need to pay attention to its hauling capabilities. Certain models may only have the durability and strength to tow loads of up to 10,000 pounds, but other trucks might be able to pull up to 35,000 pounds.

How Long Does An Electric Truck Last?

It should take about a decade for an electric truck’s battery before it requires an immediate replacement. But take note that the battery will likely reduce its maximum charge over time and with frequent use. Users should expect their vehicles’ batteries to lose about 1% of the maximum charge capacity for every 500 intense cycling sessions.

Electric truck manufacturers anticipated this issues, so these companies developed solutions to allow their customers to check the current life of their trucks’ batteries. One example is Hyundai’s MyHyundai app, which you can learn about it by watching this video:

You can still use other methods if you can’t monitor your electric truck’s battery with a smartphone app. One particular technique is to use a vehicle diagnostic tool to find potential faults in your truck, which may include possible issues in the battery.
